What Master Liang says
Sichuan, China · Yangsheng
“Gua sha (刮痧, guāshā). Scraping oiled skin with a smooth edge, horn, jade or a porcelain spoon, until red spots, the sha, rise. The tradition uses it in summer heat, for aches and at the start of a cold. The marks are tiny broken blood vessels under the skin, and fade in days.”
“The marks. Cupping and gua sha marks on children have been mistaken for abuse, and doctors may be obliged to report such marks. Never on children, not with blood thinners, and tell your doctor about them.”
